The pocket gardens running in front of the residences, which have 5 ft ways, offer a green relief to the buildings from the roadway. The Emerald Hill Estate is unusual in that the landscaped areas are located within the road reserve, owned by the Singapore Government, and maintained by the National Parks Service, at no cost to the owners. For this reason, all planting in these areas is at the discretion of Nat Parks.

The Pocket Gardens are maintained as amenities of the Emerald Hill Estate for the enjoyment of both residents and visitors to the Estate. Many of the plant species are endemic to this part of Southeast Asia and reminiscent of the Nutmeg plantation that originally was located at Emerald Hill.
